Description:

Garments were examined due to a defect in the series of one color. The "defective" garment contained several large holes, apparently from previous tensioning of the goods. An inspection of the garment in transmitted light revealed failed yarns that exhibited blunt ends. Analysis of the fabrics using microscopic analysis, DSC, and high contrast photography indicated that the source of the defects was yarn nicking/severing in the knit fabrics that can occur during numerous processes, but knitting failure or improper knitting settings were implicated. Improper dyeing/heating was not indicated as a contributing factor.
